Section Assignment
Section Assignment is the floor manager's start-of-shift screen — it groups your tables into sections (Main Hall, Outdoor, Bar, etc., taken from each table's Section field in Table Setup) and lets you assign one on-duty waiter to each section, with live occupancy and open-KOT counts so you can spot unassigned or overloaded sections at a glance.
Overview
Sections are not created here — they come from whatever "Section" value is set on each table under table setup; a section with no tables yet can still appear if it already has an assignment record.
The page auto-refreshes every 30 seconds so occupancy and open-KOT counts stay current during service.
A section shows an "UNASSIGNED" badge in red if no waiter is currently assigned to it, and a "BUSY" badge in amber once it has 6 or more open KOTs.
Assigning a waiter to a section that already has one replaces the previous assignment — the backend does not merge or stack assignments per section.
The Waiter Summary strip at the bottom shows, per staff member, how many sections, tables and open KOTs they are currently responsible for.
You can filter by Date and Shift (Morning/Afternoon/Evening/Night, auto-detected from the current time) to review or plan assignments for a specific shift.
Before You Start
- You must have the Table Management feature enabled on your plan.
- Set up your tables with Section names first (Table Setup) — sections shown here are derived from those values.
Step-by-Step Guide
1 Assign a waiter to a section
- Open Staff & HR → Section Assignment; the Date and Shift default to today and the current shift.
- Find the section card and click "Assign Waiter" (or "Change" if one is already assigned).
- Pick a staff member from the list — everyone from the Staff Roster's on-duty list appears here.
- Click "Confirm Assignment".
2 Reassign or remove an assignment
- Click "Change" on a section that already has a waiter assigned.
- Pick a different waiter and confirm, or click "Remove Assignment" to leave the section unassigned.
3 Review coverage and print
- Check the KPI strip for Sections, Assigned, Unassigned, Tables (occupied/total), Open KOTs and staff On duty.
- Scroll to the Waiter Summary strip to see per-waiter section/table/KOT counts.
- Click the printer icon to print a section-assignment sheet for the current date and shift.
Every Field & Button, Explained
| Field / Button | What it does |
|---|---|
Date / Shift | Filters which assignment records are shown; Shift defaults to the auto-detected current time window (Morning 6–14, Afternoon 14–18, Evening 18–22, Night 22–6). |
Section | Taken from the Section value on your tables (Table Setup) — not editable from this page. |
Tables (occupied/total) / Open KOTs / Occupancy % | Live counts computed from your current Tables and KOTs data for that section, refreshed automatically every 30 seconds. |
Assigned Waiter | The staff member currently responsible for that section for the selected date/shift; only one waiter can be assigned per section at a time. |
Tips & Best Practices
- Reassign a section as soon as a waiter goes on break so the "Assigned" count and Waiter Summary stay accurate for the rest of the floor team.
- Watch for the amber "BUSY" badge (6+ open KOTs) as an early signal that a section needs a helper or a second waiter.
- If a section shows 0 tables, double-check that at least one table has that exact Section name set in Table Setup.
