Section Assignment

Section Assignment is the floor manager's start-of-shift screen — it groups your tables into sections (Main Hall, Outdoor, Bar, etc., taken from each table's Section field in Table Setup) and lets you assign one on-duty waiter to each section, with live occupancy and open-KOT counts so you can spot unassigned or overloaded sections at a glance.

📍 Menu path: Staff & HR → Section Assignment
👤 Who uses it: All roles with the Table Management feature enabled

Overview

Sections are not created here — they come from whatever "Section" value is set on each table under table setup; a section with no tables yet can still appear if it already has an assignment record.

The page auto-refreshes every 30 seconds so occupancy and open-KOT counts stay current during service.

A section shows an "UNASSIGNED" badge in red if no waiter is currently assigned to it, and a "BUSY" badge in amber once it has 6 or more open KOTs.

Assigning a waiter to a section that already has one replaces the previous assignment — the backend does not merge or stack assignments per section.

The Waiter Summary strip at the bottom shows, per staff member, how many sections, tables and open KOTs they are currently responsible for.

You can filter by Date and Shift (Morning/Afternoon/Evening/Night, auto-detected from the current time) to review or plan assignments for a specific shift.

Before You Start

Step-by-Step Guide

1 Assign a waiter to a section

  1. Open Staff & HR → Section Assignment; the Date and Shift default to today and the current shift.
  2. Find the section card and click "Assign Waiter" (or "Change" if one is already assigned).
  3. Pick a staff member from the list — everyone from the Staff Roster's on-duty list appears here.
  4. Click "Confirm Assignment".

2 Reassign or remove an assignment

  1. Click "Change" on a section that already has a waiter assigned.
  2. Pick a different waiter and confirm, or click "Remove Assignment" to leave the section unassigned.

3 Review coverage and print

  1. Check the KPI strip for Sections, Assigned, Unassigned, Tables (occupied/total), Open KOTs and staff On duty.
  2. Scroll to the Waiter Summary strip to see per-waiter section/table/KOT counts.
  3. Click the printer icon to print a section-assignment sheet for the current date and shift.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

A section I expect to see is missing from the board.
Sections are derived from your tables' Section field — if no table currently uses that section name and no assignment record exists for it yet, it will not appear until one of those is true.
I assigned a new waiter but the old one still shows as responsible somewhere.
Assigning a new waiter deletes the previous assignment record for that section before creating the new one — if a stale view still shows the old name, refresh; the underlying record has been replaced.
Occupancy and KOT counts do not update quickly enough.
The board auto-refreshes every 30 seconds; use the refresh icon in the header for an immediate manual update instead of waiting for the next cycle.
