Side Work Duty Assigner
Side Work Duty Assigner hands each server their own personal set of pre/post-service tasks — polishing glassware, folding napkins, restocking condiments, prepping the beverage station, cleaning — and lets a manager sign off a shift's sheet once every task across every server is ticked complete.
Overview
This is per-person, not departmental — each server on duty gets an individually assigned task list, unlike the Opening & Closing Checklist which is a single whole-team list.
A Side Work Sheet belongs to one date + shift (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner/Late Night) and holds one assignment block per server, each with its own list of tasks.
Tasks are drawn from a built-in pool of about 20 common side-work items grouped by area — Station (polishing/rolling cutlery), Tables (napkins, bread stations, candles, centrepieces), Restocking (condiments, sugar, salt & pepper, water, side station), Beverage (coffee machine, tea station, ice) and Cleaning (menus, floor, chairs, restrooms, host desk).
Staff tick their own tasks as they complete them; a per-server and whole-sheet progress bar shows percentage complete, colour-coded amber (in progress), blue (100% done, awaiting sign-off) and green (signed off).
Once every task on the sheet is done, a "Sign Off" action becomes available — signing records the manager's name and a timestamp and locks the sheet so tasks can no longer be un-ticked.
"Print" produces a hard copy of the full sheet — every server's tasks and completion state, plus the sign-off name/time once closed.
Before You Start
- You must have the Billing feature enabled on your plan.
- Know who is on duty for the shift before creating a sheet, so tasks can be assigned to the right servers from the start.
Step-by-Step Guide
1 Create and assign a side-work sheet for a shift
- Click "New Sheet" and set the Date and Shift.
- For each server on duty, add their name and pick tasks from the task pool (or add a custom one) to build their personal list.
- Save the sheet — it now appears on the board with a 0% progress bar for each server.
2 Tick off tasks during service
- Open the sheet and find your name's block (or the block for the server you're checking).
- Click each task as it's completed — it shows as ticked and struck through, and the progress bar advances.
3 Sign off a completed sheet
- Once every server's tasks show 100% (the sheet's bar turns blue), click "Sign Off".
- Enter the signing manager's name to confirm.
- The sheet locks — tasks can no longer be ticked or unticked, and the sheet displays "Signed off by [name]" with a timestamp.
Every Field & Button, Explained
| Field / Button | What it does |
|---|---|
Side Work Sheet (date + shift) | One sheet per date/shift combination, containing one task-assignment block per server on duty that shift. |
Task pool (by area) | About 20 built-in tasks grouped into Station, Tables, Restocking, Beverage and Cleaning — pick from the pool or add a custom task when assigning. |
Per-server progress bar | Percentage of that server's own tasks ticked complete; colour shifts from amber (in progress) to blue once they hit 100%. |
Sign Off | Only enabled once every task on the whole sheet is complete; records the signing manager's name and timestamp and locks the sheet from further edits. |
Print | Produces a full hard-copy of the sheet — every server's tasks, completion state, and sign-off details once closed. |
Tips & Best Practices
- Reuse a similar task mix from a recent well-run shift rather than building every sheet from scratch — the task pool makes it quick to assemble a consistent, area-balanced list per server.
- Encourage each server to tick their own tasks as they go rather than all at once at the end — the live progress bars are most useful as a real-time floor status during service.
- Sign off promptly once a sheet reaches 100% — an unsigned, fully-complete sheet still shows as "awaiting sign-off" rather than closed out.
