UPI Payment QR
UPI Payment QR generates two kinds of scannable payment codes for your restaurant's UPI ID (VPA) — a Static Merchant QR you print and place on tables or at the counter (customer enters their own amount), and a Dynamic Bill QR you generate per-bill with the exact amount locked in, ideal for tableside payment without a card machine.
Overview
You first save your UPI ID (VPA) and the display name customers will see in their payment app — both are required before any QR code can be generated.
The Static Merchant QR encodes just your VPA and name with no amount, so it works for any bill; customers enter the amount themselves when they scan and pay. It is meant to be printed once and reused indefinitely.
The Dynamic Bill QR additionally encodes a specific amount, a payment note, and an optional table number — the customer's UPI app shows this exact amount and it cannot be changed by them, which is useful when you want to eliminate under/over-payment mistakes.
Both QR types are built as a standard "upi://pay" deep link per the NPCI specification, so they work with any compliant UPI app (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM, Amazon Pay, WhatsApp Pay, etc.) — no vendor lock-in to a specific payment app.
The UPI URL behind either QR can be copied to clipboard directly (e.g. to share via chat) in addition to being scanned, and the Static QR view has a dedicated Print button for producing a physical copy.
Before You Start
- You must have the Billing feature enabled on your plan.
- You need a working UPI ID (VPA) — e.g. yourrestaurant@upi or a linked mobile number@bank-handle — to generate any QR code on this screen.
Step-by-Step Guide
1 Set up your UPI ID
- Open Takeaway & Delivery → UPI Payment QR.
- Enter your UPI ID / VPA and a Display Name (what shows on the payer's app), then click "Save VPA".
- Once saved, both the Static and Dynamic QR tabs become usable.
2 Print a static table/counter QR
- Switch to the "📌 Static Merchant QR" tab.
- Click "🖨️ Print QR" to print it for placing on a table or at the counter, or "📋 Copy UPI URL" to share the link directly.
3 Generate a locked-amount bill QR
- Switch to the "💳 Dynamic Bill QR" tab.
- Enter the exact Bill Amount, optionally a Table No., and adjust the Payment Note if needed.
- Show the generated QR to the customer to scan — the amount is locked and cannot be edited on their end.
Every Field & Button, Explained
| Field / Button | What it does |
|---|---|
UPI ID / VPA | Your restaurant's UPI payment address; required before any QR can be generated. Saved via "Save VPA". |
Display Name | What appears as the payee name in the customer's UPI app when they scan either QR. |
Bill Amount (Dynamic tab) | The exact amount encoded into the Dynamic QR; the customer's app will show and lock this amount. |
Table No. (Dynamic tab) | Optional — appended to the payment note so you can identify which table/bill a dynamic QR payment was for. |
Payment Note | Free-text note encoded into the QR/UPI link, defaulting to "Restaurant Bill"; combined with the table number if one is set. |
Currency | Always INR per the UPI/NPCI specification — not configurable. |
Tips & Best Practices
- Print the Static Merchant QR once and reuse it indefinitely — it never needs regenerating unless your VPA or display name changes.
- Use the Dynamic Bill QR whenever you want to guarantee the exact amount paid matches the bill, since the customer cannot edit the amount in their UPI app.
- Copy the UPI URL directly (rather than only relying on the visual QR) when you need to send a payment link over chat/SMS instead of showing a screen to scan.
