Takeaway / Parcel
Takeaway / Parcel is where you log phone-in or walk-in "cook and collect from counter" orders, separate from dine-in and driver-delivered orders. Each order carries a customer name/phone, item list, a promised ready time, and a payment mode (paid now or collect on pickup), and moves through a Pending → Preparing → Ready → Picked Up status flow with a printable packing slip at every stage.
Overview
This screen is one tab inside a shared "order queue" shell that also holds Advance, Delivery, WhatsApp and Queue tabs — opening Takeaway / Parcel from the sidebar lands you on this shell with the Takeaway tab already selected; you can switch to the other tabs without leaving the page.
Every new order gets an auto-generated order number (format TKW-xxxxxx) and defaults to a 25-minute "Ready In" time — pick one of the quick presets (15/20/25/30/45/60 min) or type a custom value.
Payment is recorded as either "Pay on Pickup" (unpaid, collected in cash/card/UPI at handover) or "Paid Now" with a method (Cash/Card/UPI) — this only records the payment note on the order itself, it does not create a full sale/invoice.
The order list auto-refreshes every 30 seconds so new phone-in orders and status changes from kitchen staff appear without a manual reload.
A green banner appears whenever one or more orders are in READY status, prompting staff to call the customer; each order card also shows a live "Ready in Xm" / "Ready now!" / "Xm overdue" countdown that turns red once the promised time has passed.
"Mark Ready" / "Picked Up" buttons only advance one status step at a time (Pending → Preparing → Ready → Picked Up); Cancel is available at any point before Picked Up.
The Print button generates a narrow-format packing slip (order number, customer name/phone, placed/ready times, item list, total, payment status and any special note) in a new browser window/print dialog.
Before You Start
- You must have the Billing feature enabled on your plan.
Step-by-Step Guide
1 Place a new takeaway order
- Open Takeaway & Delivery → Takeaway / Parcel and click "+ New Takeaway Order" (the Takeaway tab is selected by default).
- Search for an existing customer or type a walk-in name; phone auto-fills if the customer is found.
- Pick a "Ready In" preset or enter a custom number of minutes.
- Choose Pay on Pickup or Paid Now (and a payment method if paid now).
- Search for or type each item, set quantity and rate, and add more lines as needed — GST and any MRP discount badges appear automatically when the item carries tax/MRP data.
- Add any special instructions (e.g. "no onion no garlic"), then click "Place Order" — the packing slip print dialog opens automatically.
2 Move an order through the kitchen
- Find the order under the Pending or Preparing tab (or the combined Active tab).
- Click "Start Preparing" to move Pending → Preparing, then "Mark Ready" to move Preparing → Ready.
- Once ready, click "Picked Up ✓" when the customer collects it, or "Cancel" to cancel the order at any point before pickup.
3 Bill a takeaway order at the register
- If your screen is wired to checkout (via the onCheckout hand-off), click the "Bill" button on an order card to send it to the billing screen for final invoicing/payment capture.
Every Field & Button, Explained
| Field / Button | What it does |
|---|---|
Order Number | Auto-generated as TKW-xxxxxx at creation — not editable. |
Customer Name / Phone | Name is required; phone is optional and auto-fills from a matched customer search. |
Ready In (minutes) | Sets the promised pickup time as "now + N minutes"; defaults to 25 via quick-select chips (15/20/25/30/45/60) or a custom number. |
Payment | Pay on Pickup (unpaid, collected later) or Paid Now with a method (Cash/Card/UPI) — recorded on the order but does not create a separate sale record. |
Items | One or more lines with item name (search or manual), quantity and rate; GST% and MRP/discount badges display automatically when the searched product carries that data. |
Special Instructions | Free-text note printed on the packing slip in a highlighted box. |
Status | PENDING → PREPARING → READY → PICKED_UP, or CANCELLED at any point before pickup. Each transition is one button click; there is no "go back" action. |
Tips & Best Practices
- Use the Ready alert banner (green, shown whenever any order is READY) as your cue to call customers — it stays visible until every ready order is marked Picked Up.
- Reprint the packing slip any time from the printer icon on an order card — useful if the first copy was lost or smudged in the kitchen.
- The 30-second auto-poll means you usually do not need to manually refresh, but the refresh button is there if you want to force an immediate update.
