Table Handover
Table Handover lets an outgoing waiter formally transfer their still-occupied tables to an incoming waiter when a shift ends mid-service — one table at a time or all of that waiter's tables in a single bulk action — with optional notes (allergies, pending items, deposits) and a timestamped log the floor captain can review.
Overview
Active tables are grouped by their currently-assigned waiter, each card showing party name/pax, running bill total, time seated and how many KOTs (and how many still pending) belong to that table.
Long-seated tables (over 90 minutes, or any time shown in hours) are flagged so a handover does not miss a table that has been sitting a while.
"Hand Over" transfers a single table; "Hand Over All Tables" at the waiter-group header transfers every active table for that person in one action.
Every handover is written to today's Handover Log with the time, table, outgoing/incoming waiter, running bill amount and any notes — this is the record the floor captain reviews for accountability.
The page polls every 30 seconds so the active-tables list and running totals stay current during service.
A "Print Log" button produces a printable summary of today's handovers for the captain's records.
Before You Start
- You must have the Table Management feature enabled on your plan.
Step-by-Step Guide
1 Hand over a single table
- Open Staff & HR → Table Handover on the "Active Tables" tab.
- Find the table under its current waiter's group and click "Hand Over" on that table's card.
- Pick the incoming waiter (any active staff member other than the outgoing one) and add optional notes.
- Click "Confirm Handover".
2 Hand over all of a waiter's tables at once
- Click "Hand Over All" next to the waiter's name at the top of their table group.
- Pick the incoming waiter and add a note covering the whole group if useful.
- Confirm — every listed table under that waiter moves to the new waiter in one action, each logged as its own entry.
3 Review and print today's handover log
- Switch to the "Handover Log" tab to see every handover recorded today, with time, table, from/to waiter, notes and bill amount.
- Click "Print Log" to generate a printable summary for the floor captain.
Every Field & Button, Explained
| Field / Button | What it does |
|---|---|
Hand Over To | Required. Any active staff member other than the current (outgoing) one for that table. |
Handover Notes | Optional free text — pending KOTs, guest allergies, special requests, deposit paid, etc., shown to the incoming waiter and stored on the log entry. |
Running Total (per table) | The table's current unpaid bill total at the moment of handover, snapshotted onto the log entry (not a live-updating figure once logged). |
Handover Log fields | Time, Table (with section if not "Main Hall"), From, To, Notes and Amount — one row per completed handover for the selected day. |
Tips & Best Practices
- Add a note whenever a table has anything the next waiter would not otherwise know — a stated allergy, a paid deposit, or an item already promised to the table.
- Use "Hand Over All" at shift change to avoid missing a table when a waiter has several active tables at once.
- Check the pending-KOT badge before handing over a table so the incoming waiter knows what is still cooking.
